Yugoslavia get go-ahead
![]() Yugoslavia will line up as expected at Euro 2000
Yugoslavia got the green light to compete at Euro 2000 when a Belgian court ruled against Kosovars resident in Belgium who wanted to see them banned.
The Kosovars were hoping that the courts would refuse visas to the Yugoslav team, but their application was thrown out. However the court did rule that members of the European Union should not enter into financial transactions with the Yugoslav Football Federation (RFY). The RFY are still owed around £2m for reaching the finals of Euro 2000, and Georges-Henri Beauthier, lawyer for the Kosovars, is now attempting to have this money seized. Yugoslavia were thrown out of the 1992 finals because of sanctions imposed by the United Nations, and Denmark, went on to win the tournament. Yugoslavia are set to play all three of their group games on Belgium soil, and were they to win their group, the Yugoslavs would play their quarter-final and potentially their semi-final in Belgium also.
