Solomon Islands fighting intensifies

Fighting between rival ethnic groups in the Solomon Islands has intensified with one group using a stolen patrol boat to bombard coastal villages. The leader of the Malaitan armed rebels, who have taken the Prime Minister hostage, has reported heavy casualties. The escalating violence has left foreign nationals stranded.
