Holocaust museum opens in London

Queen Elizabeth has opened a permanent Holocaust exhibition in London and met Jewish survivors of Nazi persecution.

The exhibition at the Imperial War Museum, which took four years to put together, uses original artefacts, documents, photographs and film to tell the story of the Nazis' genocidal programme.

Organisers say the exhibition, which cost twenty seven million dollars, is the largest Holocaust display outside Israel and the United States.

It has been hailed by survivors and Jewish community leaders as a fitting tribute to the six million Jews who died under the Nazi regime. The exhibition also documents the persecution of other groups such as gypsies and homosexuals.
