France cruise into Euro 2000

Morocco 1-5 France

France signed off their Euro 2000 build-up with an easy win over Morocco in the final of the King Hassan II tournament in Casablanca.

Goals from Henry, Djourkaeff and Dugarry, Anelka and Wiltord gave the World champions victory in the competition which they also won ahead of the 1998 World Cup Finals

In a free-flowing first half, Morocco were unable to convert their abundant possession into significant goal scoring chances.

France, with Nicolas Anelka looking dangerous, were less fluent but still fashioned the more dangerous attacks.

Dispossessed

They struck in the 27th minute when Anelka dispossed Abrami on the right flank and slotted the ball through to the advancing Henry.

The Arsenal striker shrugged off a challenge and touched the ball coolly past Fouami in the Moroccan goal.

The home side's best chance came when Salaheddine Bassir hit post with a fiercely struck shot on the stroke of half time.

Zidane: an impressive substitute

Morocco continued to press, but a strong counter-attacking run from Anelka ended in a penalty in the 55th minute when Abrami brought down the Real Madrid forward.

Youri Djourkaeff stepped up to score his 24th international goal.

The Moroccans kept coming forward, however, and were rewarded when captain Noureddine Naybet headed home Youseff Mariana's free kick after 65 minutes.

But Christophe Dugarry made it safe for France on 79 minutes, latching on to substitute Emmanuel Petit's through ball and chipping

Anelka made it 4-1 four minutes later, capitalising on some excellent work from Zinedine Zidane, and Sylvain Wiltord hit the fifth in the final minute.
