Horror of Eritrea-Ethiopia conflict revealed

As fighting continues in Eritrea between Ethiopian and Eritrean forces, evidence is emerging of the full horror of the conflict there.

A BBC Correspondent in the disputed border area says Eritrean soldiers have described scenes reminiscent of the First World War, with trenches being pounded relentlessly for up to thirty hours.

The soldiers, who deserted, say the wounded were simply left to die.

The Eritrean government earlier claimed a big victory in the far-western town of Tessene about two-hundred-and-fifty kilometres from the Eritrean capital, Asmara.

Ethiopia had previously said that its troops had withdrawn from the area.

Journalists taken to Tessene saw the bodies of Ethiopian soldiers lying on the battlefield.
