Violence continues in Zimbabwe

An independent monitoring group in Zimbabwe and the main opposition party say that activists associated with the governing party are continuing to attack teachers and health workers.

They say that many of those injured are being prevented from entering medical clinics, while those inside are being forcibly removed.

The Zimbabwe Teachers Association says at least two-hundred schools have been disrupted by intimidation and attacks.

More than five-thousand cases of political violence have been reported since February, when a government-sponsored referendum on a new constitution was defeated. The opposition Movement for Democratic Change accuses Robert Mugabe's government of orchestrating the violence to intimidate voters ahead of parliamentary elections later this month.

At least thirty people, mostly opposition supporters, have been killed.
