West Indies v Pakistan: Second Test drawn

The second Test between the West Indies and Pakistan at the Kensington Oval in Barbados has ended in a disappointing draw.

Pakistan had set the West Indies the improbable target of 275 to win in a minimum of 57 overs.

And the visitors put the wind up the Windies when they reduced them to 58 for three at tea on the final day.

But the Caribbean side comfortably held on and ended the day on 132-4 to draw the match.

After the first Test was a wash-out draw it means neither team has claimed first blood in the three Test series.

And it means Thursday's final Test in Antigua will be the decider.

West Indies captain Jimmy Adams and number three batsman Wavell Hinds, who scored a 165 in the first innings, led them to safety with a fourth-wicket partnership of 72.

At the close, Adams was 34 not out and Ramnaresh Sarwan 11 not out.

Earlier, Pakistan had bizarrely chosen to bat for a further 10 minutes after lunch to declare their second innings at 419 for nine.

All-rounder Abdur Razzaq was dismissed in the third over after the interval.

Abdur, whose 72 made in just under five hours from 204 balls contained 10 boundaries, tried to hit Reon King over the long-on boundary, but gave a swirling catch to substitute fielder Chris Gayle.

Declaration

Next over, Saqlain Mushtaq, with whom Abdur added 70 for the eighth wicket, lost his off-stump to Nixon McLean to prompt the Pakistan declaration.

Watched by former West Indies captain Brian Lara, Pakistan's new-ball pair of Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis then accounted for the West Indian opening batsmen in the first half-hour of their innings.

Left-hander Adrian Griffith was adjudged lbw for five to Waqar and Sherwin Campbell caught at gully by substitute Shahid Afridi for eight fending away a short-ball from Wasim.
