Mexican teachers on strike

Around five-thousand teachers blocked the entrances to several foreign embassies and the foreign ministry in Mexico City on Monday to press their demands for a pay rise.

The demonstrators gathered outside the German, French and US missions where they handed in letters outlining their complaints.

Around twenty thousand teachers across the country have been on strike since last week, disrupting classes for some four million students. The protestors belong to a dissident trade union, and their action is not supported by the main teaching union.
