Polish army officer sentenced for spying
A former senior Polish army officer has been sentenced to four years in prison for spying for Russia. A military court in Warsaw declined to name the man but said he was a former regional head of military intelligence who had passed secret information to Moscow between 1988 and 1993. The man was among three officers arrested last year on charges of spying for Russia. Correspondents say the case is likely to increase tension between Poland and Russia whose relations are already strained by claims and counter claims of espionage. Nine Russian diplomats were expelled from Warsaw in January for alleged spying. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
