Kewell in Australia rift
![]() Kewell faces another national team dispute
Leeds United midfielder Harry Kewell will not take part in Australia's friendly against Paraguay next month, following a dispute with tournament organisers.
Australia's manager Bernie Mandic stated that the Premiership's young player of the year, will not play in any of the internationals run by the International Entertainment Corporation.
Kewell is apparently upset over alleged comments by IEC director Dominic Galati on television that some of Australia's top players had demanded $150,000 (Aus) in appearance fees to play against Manchester United here last July. The young midfielder is reported to unhappy over suggestions that he was one of the stars to have asked for the cash incentive. "Because of that he won't play in any games run by the IEC until he gets an apology," said Mandic. An IEC spokesman refused to be drawn into the debate, admitting that any problems will be resolved solely between Kewell and Soccer Australia. The Leeds star failed to play in last November's friendlies against Brazil because of injury, although he was initially told by the Elland Road side that he would not be allowed to compete due to club commitments. Celtic striker Mark Viduka will also miss the three matches in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne because he is still recovering from an ankle injury.
