Turkish international midfielder Tayfun Korkut has agreed a three-year deal with Spanish first division club Real Sociedad.
The 26-year-old, who played for Istanbul club Fenerbahce, completed the transfer after talks with Real Sociedad president Luis Uranga. Korkut, who is in the Turkish national squad for the European Championship, is to receive around £2m for his stay in Spain. The German-born playmaker began his career with Stuttgart Kickers, playing alongside Fredi Bobic in the youth section. But when the club were relegated to the third division, he moved to Turkey to join Fenerbahce.
He made his international debut against Sweden, a 2-2 draw that ensured Turkey's qualification for Euro 96 where he played in the last game, a 3-0 defeat by Denmark. Fenerbahce finished fourth in the Turkish league after a bad season marked by a series of surprising defeats and an early farewell to the Turkey Cup after losing to a second-division outfit.
