Wahid's brother to quit IBRA

The younger brother of the Indonesian president, Abdurrahman Wahid, has said he's to resign from the powerful Indonesian Bank Restructuring Agency -- IBRA.

Hasyim Wahid said he was quitting the advisory post because the recent publicity surrounding his appointment had made it impossible for him do his job.

He was appointed in December.

Critics have accused the government of a return to the political manoeuvring and nepotism which characterised the rule of former President Suharto. The bank has the task of restoring economic viability to Indonesia's banks, crippled in the Asian economic crisis.
