Clashes throughout Kashmir

Police in Indian-administered Kashmir say one person was killed and two others were injured when militants attempted to hit the state secretariat building with rifle grenades.

A newly formed militant group, Jaish-e-Mohammad, said it was responsible for the attack.

At least sixteen other people have been killed in separate incidents of violence across the state in the past twenty-four hours -- most of them separatist militants or Indian security forces.

In one other incident, police say suspected militants attacked a twelve-year old girl, wounding her, because she was wearing close-fitting trousers which they deemed to be un-Islamic.
