Pakistan second innings 345 for seven, a lead of 200

The West Indies bowlers fought back against Pakistan on the fourth day of the second Test at the Kensington Oval in Barbados.

Pakistan, 145 runs behind after the first innings, had raced to 219 without loss early on Sunday, but had been held to 345 for seven when bad light stopped play - a lead of exactly 200.

The tourists resumed with openers Imran Nazir (94) and Mohammad Wasim (53) already having scored 152 without loss.

Nazir, at 18 years and 157 days old, soon went on to become the third youngest batsman to score a Test century, but his partner Wasim was dismissed at 82 to end the marathon stand.

Fast bowler Reon King claimed his wicket and also captured those of Nazir and Younis Khan before lunch.

Tight bowling

In the next two sessions, Pakistan made only 92 runs off 58 overs against the West Indies attack, led by tight, accurate spells from the veteran fast bowlers Courtney Walsh and Curtly Ambrose.

Ambrose bowled without reward, but Walsh grabbed the prize wicket of Inzamam-ul-Haq when he was looking dangerous on 29.

West Indies captain Jimmy Adams was another key figure, taking two important wickets with his spin late in the day, in a seven-over spell that included five maidens and conceded just two runs.

It sets the stage for a gripping final day, as both teams seek to gain first blood in the three-Test Cable and Wireless series.

Scorecard: Pakistan 253 and 345-7 (Imran Nazir 131, Mohammad Wasim 82, Reon King 3-62); West Indies 398 (Wavell Hinds 165, Ramnaresh Sarwan 84 not out; Saqlain Mushtaq 5-121).
