In pictures: Cannes awards
The Cannes Film Festival culminated on Sunday night with the top award, the Palme D'Or, going to Danish director Lars von Trier for Dancer in the Dark - a musical tragedy which had divided the critics.
![]() Von Trier's leading lady, Björk, walked off with Best Actress. She said she had felt like "a fish out of water" during filming
![]() Von Trier admitted acting like a "hangman" with Björk. "But it is the only way it could have been done."
![]() Aged just 20, Iranian director Samira Makhmalbaf accepted the Jury Prize for her film Blackboards.
![]() Makhmalbaf shared her prize with Roy Andersson, director of Songs from the Second Floor - his first film in 25 years.
![]() Asia took most of the other awards. Chinese director Jiang Wen (with his wife) took the Grand Prix for Devils on the Doorstep
![]() Edward Yang of Taiwan accepted the Best Director award from American director John Waters for his film, A One and a Two
![]() Best Actor went to Hong Kong star Tony Leung for his role in the 1960s romance, In the Mood for Love
