Human rights Watch delegation in Algeria
A delegation of the international organisation, Human Rights Watch, has begun a fact-finding mission in Algeria. Speaking on arrival in the Algerian capital, Algiers, the head of the delegation Joe Stork of the US said his team would meet government officials, legal experts, journalists and members of civil society. Earlier this month a delegation from Amnesty International visited Algeria. The Amnesty delegation reported a considerable improvement in the human rights situation but said a definitive conclusion would be premature. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
