Leading Indian industrialist dies

The leading Indian industrialist, Sorab Pirojshah Godrej, has died in hospital in London at the age of eighty-seven.

Mr Godrej, who died on Saturday, collapsed last week on his way to attend a conference in London.

He turned a small family firm into one of India¿s biggest industrial groups and Godrej into a household name with a wide range of products.

The Indian president, K R Narayanan, said he mourned the loss of a personal friend and a philanthropist, who was passionately devoted to the cause of the environment and social concerns. A company spokesman said the body of Mr Godrej will be taken back to his hometown of Bombay.
