Police identify canal body
Caledonian canal
Mr MacLure's body was discovered by tourists
Police have identified the body of a man discovered in the Caledonian Canal.

The body of 60-year-old fish factory worker Duncan MacLure was found floating in the canal near his home in Banavie, Fort William, at 1825BST on Saturday.

It was believed Mr MacLure had fallen into the canal two miles north of the series of eight locks known as Neptune's Staircase, at the western end of the canal.

The salmon processor, who lived at Dontra, Banavie, had fallen into the water while walking on the canalside near his home.

His body was spotted by a group of German tourists on a yachting holiday to Scotland who had been sailing on the canal at the time.

Police at Fort William said that there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding Mr MacLure's death.

A report on the tragedy was being prepared for the procurator fiscal's office
