Westwood wins in superb style
![]() Westwood: "One of the best rounds of my career"
Lee Westwood clinched the Deutsche Bank Open title in Hamburg after a superb final round of 64 - beating Tiger Woods who took a two-shot lead into the final day.
A week after saying his game was at its lowest ebb since he turned professional, the 27-year-old Englishman bounced back with eight birdies in the final 18 holes which allowed him to win by three strokes from Italy's Emanuele Canonica. Ian Woosnam and Open runner-up Jean Van de Velde shared third spot with Woods one further back. It is only the second time in his professional career that Woods has sqandered a last-day lead.
Colin Montgomerie, having moved into joint second place during the exciting final round, had to be content with joint sixth. After his victory, Westwood said: "I haven't been playing that well and I found something that made it click this week. "To shoot 64 in this company today must be one of the best rounds of my career. "I thought if I got a good start this morning it would put pressure on those in the lead, such as Tiger and that's what I managed to do. "When I hit the second shot on 17 and Emmanuel didn't make birdie I figured I could handle a three-shot lead. "A lot of it is to do with confidence. I think the old Lee Westwood is back."
