Jordan-Syria discuss Middle East peace
King Abdullah of Jordan is in Damascus for discussions with the Syrian president, Hafez al-Assad, on the Middle East peace process. Officials said the visit would centre on Israel's proposed withdrawal from southern Lebanon and the stalled Syrian-Israeli peace talks. King Abdullah's trip -- his third to Syria -- follows visits to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates during which he discussed a proposed Arab summit. The King is due to hold talks with President Bill Clinton in Washington next month. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
