Five injured in cow crash

Two people were killed in a weekend crash in Tyrone
Five people have been injured in a road accident following a weekend in which three people were killed in crashes.

The latest accident occurred near Limavady in County Londonderry when a taxi hit a cow on the Ballykelly Road at 0100 BST on Sunday morning.

The taxi passengers suffered back and leg injuries and cuts.

The cow was put down by a vet.

The weekend's accidents happened in County Tyrone and the other incident was in County Down.

Just before 0100 on Sunday two cars collided on the main Fivemiletown to Clogher road in Tyrone.

Felicity Clarke (15) from Screeby Road in Fivemiletown and Neill Loughlin (20) from Cleen Gardens in the village were killed in the accident.

Three people, two females and one male, who were travelling in the other car were hurt and taken to hospital.

Their injuries were not thought to be serious.

Omagh Fire Station officer John Langtry, who attended the accident, described the scene as one of devastation.

"When I arrived at the scene there was a car that had been off to one side, off the road, another car in the carriageway," he said.

"There were a lot of parts of vehicles scattered over the road. It was obviously quite a serious crash.

"The first appliance that came on the scene found that two people had been brought from the vehicles and first aid had been attempted.

"However, it appeared at that stage that they were unfortunately dead."

Child killed outside home

In the second accident in County Down, a three-year-old boy was killed outside his home in Downpatrick.

Conor Bogues from Saul Road in the town had been cycling along the footpath about 2000 BST on Saturday, when he fell from his bike into the path of a passing car.
