Egyptian-Turkish police cooperation

The Turkish Interior Minister, Sadettin Tantan, has held talks in Cairo on security cooperation with his Egyptian counterpart, Major-General Habib Ibrahim Al-Adli.

The Egyptian news agency MENA said Mr Tantan expressed hope to upgrade cooperation with Egypt in all fields, and praised efforts by the Egyptian police in the fight against terrorism.

Mr Al-Adli said cooperation with Turkey was based on the exchange of expertise and information to track down all forms of crimes.

Correspondents say Turkey and Egypt have over the past few years been fighting a rise in political Islam and violence attributed to Islamist group opposed to the secular regimes of the two countries.
