Ramnaresh Sarwan could not complete a maiden Test century on his debut but had the satisfaction of leading West Indies to a 145-run first-innings lead over Pakistan on the third day of the second Test in Bridgetown.

Sarwan, aged just 19, was unbeaten on 84 as West Indies were bowled out for 398 about 25 minutes prior to the scheduled tea break as they replied to Pakistan's 253.

Sarwan batted impressively for 10 minutes short of three-and-a-half hours, during which time he faced 222 balls and struck eight boundaries.

He had to share the honours with off-spinner Saqlain Mushtaq, who captured the last two wickets of Reon King and Courtney Walsh to end with five victims in a Test innings for the 10th time.

But Saqlain did have to suffer the indignity of being clouted for two leg-side sixes by last man Courtney Walsh, whose 22 in 51 minutes off 31 balls also contained two fours and helped build the West Indies' lead.

Scorecard: Pakistan 253 and 86-0; W.Indies 398 all out.
