Warne grabs five-wicket haul

First Division Leicestershire v Hampshire
Hants 229 and 123-8; Leicester 289 - Match drawn Australian Shane Warne grabbed his first five-wicket haul and then helped Hampshire hang on for a draw at Grace Road. The home side were bowled out for 289 and had a lead of 60 but Hampshire's batsmen pressed the panic button and wickets began to tumble. Phil DeFreitas took 4-41 and Anil Kumble added 2-27. But Leicestershire ran out of time settling for a draw with seven overs to go and Hampshire leading by 63 runs. First Division Derbyshire v Yorkshire Darren Lehmann and Michael di Venuto kept the entertainment level up as Derbyshire's match with Yorkshire ended in an inevitable draw. After 115.3 overs were lost on the first three days, Lehman made his 45th first-class ton as Yorkshire were all out for 349. Di Venuto hit an unbeaten 81 when the match ended after a shower. Steve Stubbings made his highest championship score, finishing on 84 not out.
Sussex v Worcestershire Second Division A 98 from Worcestershire's Vikram Solanki helped the visitors to 311-8 declared, a lead of 53 over Sussex. The reply from the home side got off to a poor start when Toby Peirce was caught behind off paceman Glenn McGrath for just two runs. The wickets continued to tumble leaving the hosts with a mountain to climb. Two wickets each for Stuart Lampitt, Alamgir Sheriyar and McGrath, and one for Solanki, left Sussex struggling on 114-7.
Nottinghamshire v Gloucestershire Second Division A fine spell by Gloucestershire seamer Ian Harvey ensured Nottinghamshire had to battle to earn a draw. The Australian all-rounder took two wickets either side of the tea interval as the hotss slipped to 144-6 in reply to Gloucestershire's total of 290. Jason Gallian steadied the ship helped by youngster Guy Welton. The pair added 90 before Welton became Harvey's first victim when bowled off his pads for 42. Notts eventually claimed a safe draw by ending the day on 207-8.
Warwickshire v Essex Second Division Essex skipper Ronnie Irani was denied a century as rain forced the championship match against Warwickshire to finish in a draw. Irani was on 91 when the game was forced to be abandoned. Rain had caused the loss of 175 overs during the first three days but it left Essex just two runs short of a third batting bonus on 298-4. Warwickshire picked up just a single bowling point.
