A minute-by-minute guide to Chelsea's 1-0 victory over Aston Villa in the FA Cup final.
1500BST: Kick-off at Wembley as the famous stadium hosts its last Cup final between Chelsea and Aston Villa. Chelsea spring a surprise by leaving out Tore Andre Flo and Jody Morris while Ian Taylor passes a fitness test in time to play for Villa. 4: George Weah produces a cheeky piece of skill and comes closest to a shot on target in the opening moments but the ball just runs away from him to the Villa keeper David James. 9: Gianfranco Zola's testing cross is cleared by Gareth Southgate but the ball only falls as far as Dennis Wise whose neat volley is hit straight at James. 13: Aston Villa win a free kick 35 yards out which is lofted into the box but tipped away by Ed de Goey. 16: Villa defender Gareth Barry is booked for bringing Chelsea's Mario Melchiot down in a dangerous area to the right of the box.
18: Mario Melchiot is then shown a yellow card himself for a foul on Barry. Villa's Paul Merson takes the free-kick but Ian Taylor at the far post is unable to get a hold of it. 22: Chelsea's Roberto Di Matteo is lucky to give away only a free-kick after his handball just outside the area. Villa are unable to capitalise. 25: Aston Villa's first real chance falls to Merson but his shot falls just wide. 28: Dennis Wise is booked for a challenge on Aston Villa's George Boateng. 30: Chelsea's corner is taken by Dennis Wise but his pacey cross is deftly taken by James. 42: Zola's cross is thundered into the danger area but in the jostling melee, neither the Blues' defender Marcel Desailly nor Gareth Barry can get a clean head on it and the ball screws well wide. 45: A disappointing first-half comes to a close in which neither side has taken the game by the scruff of the neck. Second half: 47: Villa's Ian Taylor has the first chance of the second half but his header goes wide. 50: George Weah nearly gives Chelsea the lead but his superb effort from the area flies just wide of James' right-hand post. 53: Chelsea believe they have taken the lead through Dennis Wise after James fumbles a Di Matteo shot - but the goal is ruled offside because Weah is judged to have been interfering with play. 57: Villa win a corner which is taken by Merson, but Chelsea clear and a second attempt by Boateng runs straight to De Goey. 59: Chelsea again have an outstanding chance to take the lead but Zola's blistering ball played across the face of goal is skied high over the bar by Weah when it seemed easier for him to hit the back of the net. 65: Weah produces a lofted ball into the box but Di Matteo is unable to make enough contact to trouble James - but Chelsea have certainly taken control of the match.
71: Taylor is wrongly adjudged to have fouled Melchiot which gives Chelsea a free-kick in a dangerous position. 72: Chelsea finally take the lead. Zola's free kick troubles James who tries to punch the ball to safety but he fumbles - giving Roberto Di Matteo the chance to put the ball in the net in a Cup Final for the second time in four seasons. 74: Villa squander a superb opportunity to draw level almost immediately but Benito Carbone's weak shot towards an empty goal is cleared of the line by Frank LeBoeuf. 77: Ian Taylor is replaced for Villa by Steve Stone and Benito Carbone makes way for Julian Joachim. 84: Villa win a free-kick with just five minutes to go but Merson's ball is well defended by Chelsea. 87: Lee Hendrie comes on for Alan Wright for Villa while Chelsea replace George Weah with Tore Andre Flo. 91: Ugo Ehiogu squanders Villa's final chance of the match when instead of playing the ball back across the box for Dublin he snatches at a header which falls well wide. 92: Jody Morris comes on for Gianfranco Zola but it matters little as the whistle blows and Chelsea win the FA Cup for the second time in four seasons - making Gianluca Vialli the most successful manager in the Blues' history.
