Maiden century puts Windies on top

Hinds is the fourth Jamaican to score 100 at this venue

Wavel Hinds' maiden test century handed the West Indies the initiative on day two of the second Test with Pakistan in Barbados.

The hosts finished the day on 283-5 - a first innings lead of 30 after Hinds scored 165.

Jamaican Hinds, playing in his fourth test, completed his 100 before tea with his 16th four in 218 minutes off 150 balls.

It is always a dream to score your first Test hundred, especially at home in the West Indies

The 23-year-old left-handed batsman continued to spray the ball around the ground after reaching his century and his next 50, scored off only 55 balls, included a further seven fours.

Hinds was eventually removed for 165 when he was caught by Inzamam ul-Haq off Waqar Younis.

"It's great to score your first Test hundred. I'm feeling good, it is a nice hundred to assist my team," Hinds said.

West Indies' coach Roger Harper said it was a deserving century for Hinds.

"I think he has worked hard and he thoroughly deserved the success that he got here today," Harper said.

Hinds is only the fourth Jamaican to score a century at this venue and the first since Lawrence Rowe made his magnificent 302 against England in 1974.
