Janet Reno faces protestors, supporters

A visit to Miami by the United States Attoney General, Janet Reno, has been met with mixed rallies involving hundreds of people.

Mrs. Reno made her first public appearence since ordering a raid to reunite the young Cuban shipwreck boy, Elian Gonzalez, with his father.

Protestors carried banners denouncing Mrs Reno for removing the boy from the house of his relatives in the Little Havana district of Miami last month.

Nearby, scores of people waving American flags shouted slogans supporting her.

On Thursday, Elian, his father and his immediate family left their retreat at the Wye Plantation in Maryland.

Officials said they were moving to an area closer to the capital, Washington, while they await the outcome of court action to determine the boy's fate.
