IMF praises Mexico

The managing director of the International Monetary Fund, Horst Koehler, has praised Mexico's economic, financial and monetary policy.

Speaking during a visit to Mexico City, Mr Koehler said he saw no reason for an economic crisis after the country's presidential election on July the second.

The poll is set to be one of the tightest in Mexico's history, with the Institutional Revolutionary Party, which has been in power for more than seventy years, facing a fierce challenge from the opposition.

Mr Koehler was on the third and final leg of a tour of Latin America, which also took him to Argentina, Brazil and Honduras.
