More detentions after Paraguay attempted coup

The authorities in Paraguay say they have arrested dozens of military officers and policemen on suspicion of supporting a failed coup against President Luis Gonzalez Macchi.

It follows the detention of about seventy people on Friday.

A state of emergency is in place across the country.

Meanwhile farmers and union leaders have accused the government of using its extraordinary powers to stop protests against the privatization of state-owned firms that began early this month.
