Euro lifeline for Larsson
Henrik Larsson
Henrik Larsson could yet make Euro 2000
Swedish coach Tommy Soderberg has called up Celtic striker Henrik Larsson, whose season was ruined by a serious broken leg, to attend a pre-Euro 2000 training camp in Gothenburg.

"This is my last chance of making it to the Euro 2000 finals. I have nothing to lose," Larsson admitted.

Larsson said he was fully recovered from the broken leg he suffered seven months ago.

And he claimed he was ready to be a substitute for Celtic in their final game against Dundee United, despite earlier having been ruled out of club action for the rest of the season.

The Swedish management team are also keen for Larsson to take part in the game so he can prove his fitness.

Joint-coach Lars Lagerback said: "We know he hasn't played much over the last half year but we want to see him in action and then decide what to do."

But Celtic director of football operations and caretaker manager Kenny Dalglish is wary of Larsson playing.

"Henrik is pushing us for a game on Sunday - he wants to play the last 15 to 20 minutes," he said.

"But the problem is it's not just about 20 minutes now; it's also about next season.

"It would be great to see him back, but he has got to be responsible."

Larsson scored 70 goals in just two years for Celtic before he was injured in a UEFA Cup match against Olympique Lyon.

Dalglish insists it remains Larsson's own decision whether he remains in contention for Euro 2000.

He has trained with Celtic, but Dalglish insists they were 'very light' sessions and were not indicative of his true fitness.

Dalglish said: "He has not made any decision on Euro 2000."

Henrik will make his own decision about the tournament and tell the Swedish coach himself.

"I'm sure that everyone will act in a professional manner. Henrik is too sensible to take a risk," added Dalglish.
