Hooligan hotline inundated
![]() Nineteen people were injured in the violence
Police working to identify the football fans involved in Wednesday's violent clashes in Copenhagen have received "an awful lot of calls" from the public.
The National Criminal Intelligence Service appealed for help to name the English supporters who fought with Turkish fans ahead of the Uefa Cup final between Arsenal and Galatasaray. Police are also studying photographs and video footage of the brawls which left 19 people injured - four with stab wounds. Officers in the UK want to identify troublemakers so they can alert Dutch and Belgian police ahead of next month's Euro 2000 tournament.
NCIS's Football Intelligence Unit has also asked clubs and the Football Association to see if they recognised any of those taking part in the violence. An NCIS spokeswoman said: "I am unable to say whether anyone has been identified at this stage but the information is being looked into by our experts." The FA, police and the government are rechecking security arrangements for Euro 2000 after NCIS reported on Thursday that English fans were "almost guaranteed" to be in the thick of any trouble. There are also fears that the events in Copenhagen may have damaged England's bid to hold the 2006 World Cup. English and Turkish fans clashed again on Thursday night at Copenhagen airport as they waited to board planes home. Police intervened after fighting broke out and bottles were thrown. Danish police arrested 64 people on Wednesday night, 19 of them English supporters. They have since been released without charge and escorted from the country. Police in Britain said they were disappointed that those arrested would not face justice. "It does act as a deterrent," said Mark Steels of NCIS. Hooligan Hotline: 0800 515 495
