Iranian reformists criticise Tehran election ruling

There's been a further increase in factional recrimination in Iran over the results from the general election in February for the vital Teheran consituency.

Reformists have reacted angrily to last week's announcement by the right-wing Council of Guardians that five-hundred ballot boxes were void, and that three reformist candidates who'd originally been declared winners had been disqualified.

One of the reformist candidates, Rasoul Montajabnia, accused the Council of trying to improve the chances of right-wing candidates.

Conservative newspapers, however, have accused interior ministry officials of vote-rigging and are calling for the prosecution of the Deputy Interior Minister, Mustafa Tajzdeh, who's associated with the reformists. The BBC Teheran Correspondent says the vote-rigging allegations have now been referred to the courts, where the Conservatives have a distinct advantage.
