I was misquoted - Amoruso
Amoruso
Only a month ago, Amoruso was parading the SPL trophy
Rangers captain Lorenzo Amoruso has denied comments attributed to him in the club's official magazine.

The Rangers News quoted the Italian as saying communication had broken down between himself and manager Dick Advocaat and that the club wanted to sell him.

But Amoruso now insists he was misquoted by the magazine.

Maybe I am a little stupid sometimes, but I am not so stupid I would say these things to the club newspaper

The defender is currently in Italy recuperating after an ankle operation which has ruled him out of the Scottish Cup final.

Amoruso told the Daily Record he didn't know where the quotes attributed to him had come from.

He said: "I really don't know what all of this is about. I didn't say anything like this and I can't understand why the Rangers News has done this.

Two-year holiday

"Maybe I am a little stupid sometimes but I am not so stupid I would say these things to the club newspaper.

"All I said was if I am leaving the club this summer then it will be because both the club and I have agreed to it.

"I didn't say anything about the club kicking me in the backside and I certainly didn't say anything about staying with the club until the end of my contract and having a two-year holiday.

"The situation is clear. I have two years left but if it is the intention of Rangers to sell Lorenzo Amoruso then Lorenzo will go where he wants to go."

David Murray: No short-term solution
Rangers chairman David Murray, who has discussed the matter with Amoruso's agent Andrea d'Amico, said the Italian's future would not be decided until he had recovered from his ankle operation.

"Andrea told me this had been an automatic reaction by Lorenzo to the reports in Scotland about him and I understand that he is now debating the words attributed to him as well," said Murray.

"Whatever the case, it matters little at the moment since the situation hasn't changed.

"Until he is fit, we cannot sell him nor can we talk about a new contract. I explained that to his agent and he understood and at Rangers we have much more pressing issues to deal with at the moment.

"We cannot risk going into the Champions League qualifiers without enough fit defenders and that is the reason we are pursuing Bert Konterman."
