Sunni scholar shot dead in Karachi
A prominent Sunni Muslim scholar in Pakistan, Maulana Mohammad Yusuf Ludhianvi, has been shot dead in Karachi in a suspected sectarian attack. The police say four unidentified gunmen opened fire on his car with automatic weapons. Mr Ludhianvi's driver was also killed and his son seriously wounded. Mr Ludhianvi - a religious moderate - had been leading efforts to end the violence between Sunni and Shia Muslims, which has claimed more than 20 lives in the past two months.
