Two Koreas agree on sumit protocols

Officials from North and South Korea have signed an agreement setting out the agenda and other details for a first-ever summit between their leaders.

The summit -- the first since the Korean Peninsula was divided in 1945 -- is planned to take place in the North Korean capital, Pyongyang, in June.

Officials, meeting at the border village of Panmunjom, settled their remaining outstanding disagreements over the size of the Southern press corps and the use of satellite reporting.

A BBC correspondent in Seoul says the agreement to hold the summit comes at a time when the North is facing the aftermath of flooding and famine and is seeking to escape from its long isolation.
