Bangladesh hope for test status

The president of the Bangladesh cricket board, Saber Hossain Chowdhury, has said his country has gained the support of Australia in its bid to become a test-playing nation.

Mr Chowdhury was speaking on his return from a visit to Australia.

Bangladesh already has the support of Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka, and Zimbabwe.

It will need the support of two more members of the International Cricket Council at its next meeting in June, in London.

Meanwhile, the president of the cricket authorities in India, A C Mutthiah, has warned against public mud-slinging in the current scandal over corruption.

He said people making wild allegations in public faced expulsion.
