Best on the milk wagon

Former hard-drinking football legend George Best will shortly be seen on our television screens sipping pints...of milk!

The former Manchester United and Northern Ireland star who recently gave up alcohol because of a health scare has been signed up to promote milk by the National Dairy Council.

Best was hospitalised for two months after collapsing at home.

A spokesman for the NDC said: "He is one of a host of celebrities who is involved in our new campaign."

Previously the footballer who dazzled fans with his skills at Manchester's Old Trafford and in Belfast's Windsor Park had promoted eggs and a well-known brand of Northern Ireland sausage.

He is currently the subject of a film, Best, which stars Newry-born actor John Lynch in the title role.

He did not attend the premiere of the film about his turbulent life because he was still recuperating from his illness.
