Zahovic's pledge to fans

Slovenian star Zlatko Zahovic has made a promise to fans ahead of the championships that, despite his suspension, he will not forget how to play.
The country's top goalscorer was recently suspended by Greek champions Olympiakos for swearing at coach Alberto Bigon and will be out of action for the remainder of the season. Really sorry Zahovic said: "Sometimes I just can't control my temper. I'm really sorry this has happened. "Don't worry, I won't forget how to play soccer." Zahovic scored nine of 15 qualification goals for Slovenia as the country with a population of only two million stunned Europe by earning their first taste of a major footballing event.
Zahovic is determined not to let the suspension affect his form and has even employed a personal coach. "I hope I will be in better shape than ever. "This will be the highlight of all our careers and we should not mess up, although just qualifying for the finals was already a big success." he said. Star at home The midfielder became a star at home, although he has never played for a Slovenian championship league club. He has spent the last 11 years abroad with Partizan Belgrade and Porto before his move to Greece. Zahovic is convinced Slovenia should not be under-estimated at Euro 2000 although they are the underdogs among the 16 finalists. "I'm sure we can be a pain in the neck for all our rivals. I would definitely back Slovenia," he commented. |
