Storms kill five in Argentina
At least five people are reported to have been killed by violent storms in Argentina. One four-year-old boy died in a mudslide in Buenos Aires province, and three other children were killed when a tree fell on a shelter in Rosario, in Santa Fe province. A man was reported to have died after stepping on a fallen power line in Buenos Aires. Around twenty-five-thousand people evacuated their homes to escape rising flood waters, after more than two-hundred milimetres of rain fell in two days. The mayor of Buenos Aires, Enrique Olivera, said the situation was beginning to return to normal by Wednesday morning. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
