Iranian court jails Hajjarian gunman
A court in Iran has jailed for fifteen years a gunman convicted of shooting a close ally of President Khatami. The gunman, Saeed Asgar, had admitted firing the shots which left the leading reformer, Saeed Hajjarian, seriously injured. The attack took place in March of this year. The BBC Tehran Correspondent says that many reformists suspect that the case was hurried through to avoid the investigation spreading to higher circles. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
