Taiwan quake kills three
A moderate earthquake has struck the central area of Taiwan, killing at least three people and leaving dozens more stranded by mudslides. Seismologists say the epicentre was close to that of a major quake last September which killed more than two-thousand people. Officials said landslides had blocked roads and some of the people injured were being taken to hospital by helicopter. Despite the recent escalation in tension over Beijing's reunification demands, China has sent its condolences over the deaths. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
