'Allo, 'Allo - no Grandstand
Wembley Stadium
This year's FA Cup final will be the last at Wembley Stadium
The BBC's flagship sports programme Grandstand will not be screened on Saturday because there is not enough action to show.

Instead the BBC will show a repeat of the sitcom 'Allo 'Allo and the movie My Fair Lady.

It comes after the corporation lost the rights for the FA Cup, which takes place on Saturday, and Test match cricket.

Aston Villa and Chelsea will battle for the FA Cup

Three races from Newbury will be screened on BBC2 on Saturday.

Meanwhile, ITV will show the FA Cup Final between Aston Villa and Chelsea and Channel 4 has coverage of the Lord's Test between England and Zimbabwe.

However there will be full commentary of the FA Cup final on BBC Radio 5Live.

A BBC Sport spokesman said the absence of Grandstand was not "unique" and said the corporation was offering an alternative.

"It is not unusual for there not to be a Grandstand," he said.

Grandstand's Steve Ryder - an afternoon off

"It is not on 52 weeks of the year, especially around Christmas and the New Year when perhaps there is little significant sport.

"We are running a full card of racing and on BBC1 we are providing alternative programming, in the same way that ITV does 52 weeks of the year when there is no cup final.

"People have to realise that the BBC cannot have everything."

ITV and BSkyB won the rights to screen the FA Cup exclusively in 1998.

Last year on FA Cup day, the BBC was able to show the cricket World Cup and athletics.
