Indonesian mine blockaded

Angry villagers have blockaded a gold mine in Indonesia's East Kalimantan region, halting production for the second time in a month.

Protestors from Kelian village blocked an access road to the mine, stopping supplies of fuel and other raw materials.

The villagers are demanding compensation for land used by the firm.

The action comes only days after the villagers lifted a three-week blockade and agreed to negotiate with the mining company PT Kelian Equatorial Mining.

Negotiations are continuing on the compensation offer. The London-based Rio Tinto Ltd holds ninety per-cent of the equity in the company.
