Football fans clash in Denmark

English and Turkish football fans have clashed in the Danish capital, Copenhagen, just hours before a UEFA Cup final match.

Riot police used tear gas to separate the brawling fans of the London team, Arsenal, and the Istanbul club, Galatasary.

Chairs and other objects were thrown during the violence.

Eye-witnesses spoke of seeing several football fans hurt. A spokesman for the Copenhagen police said they were still trying to check the numbers of people arrested or injured.

The violence follows clashes between several hundred fans overnight, in which five people were injured.

Danish police have mounted a big security operation for tonight's match, following the clashes in Istanbul last month, when two Leeds United fans were stabbed to death.
