Cuba criticises Polish senator
Cuba has sharply criticised a Polish politician who visited the island earlier this month, accusing him of trying to foment counter-revolution. In an editorial, the official communist newspaper, Granma, described as a conspirator the head of the Polish Senate's human rights commission, Zbigniew Romaszewski. During his trip, Mr Romaszewski met several dissidents and religious leaders. The paper went on to criticise the Polish government for acting, in its words, as a lackey of the United States. Last month, Poland and the Czech Republic sponsored a United Nations resolution condemning Cuba's human rights record. In response, Cuba organised a rally of about a-hundred-thousand people outside the Czech embassy in Havana, and broke off talks with other European countries who supported the measure.
