Football death inquiry appeal to fans
Police investigation
Terry Coles died outside the Rotherham ground
The police officer leading the investigation into the death of a Swansea City fan, has urged fellow supporters who may have seen what happened to come forward.

Terry Coles, 41, died ten days ago after being trampled by a police horse outside Rotherham United's football ground.

A chief superintendent from West Yorkshire Police is due to arrive in south Wales to interview crucial witnesses.

Terry Coles was just one of hundreds of Swansea fans being escorted to Rotherham's Millmoor Lane ground, when trouble broke out, and South Yorkshire Police intervened.

Mr Coles was hit by a police horse in the confusion and died of his injuries in hospital.

Now an independent inquiry headed by an officer from another force is trying to piece together exactly what happened.

"We've got some witnesses who have already contacted us," said Chief Superintendent Jawaid Akhtar.

"But I need more people to come forward, in fact all the people who were present in the area.

"When we go down to Swansea, obviously it's my intention to see the family and liaise with the South Wales Police because we're going to need their co-operation for our team working in south Wales."

Mr Akhtar's inquiry will be supervised by the Police Complaints Authority and it has the backing of South Yorkshire Police who are under investigation.

Anyone with information should call West Yorkshire Police on 0800 318001.
