Outrage at necklace bomb in Colombia

There have been further expressions of outrage in Colombia after a woman was killed on Monday by a bomb placed around her neck.

The national police chief, General Rosso Jose Serrano, said left-wing rebels from the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia were to blame for what he called a barbarous murder.

He said the Colombian authorities were asking international human rights organisations to denounce the rebels.

The device was glued to the woman by armed men who said they would detonate it unless she paid them thousands of dollars.

As police tried to deactivate the bomb, it exploded, killing the woman instantly.

A bomb squad expert later died in hospital.
