Man held in murder investigation

A 49-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering a woman who died of neck injuries in Oxfordshire.

Officers were called on Monday to Bell Lane in Wheatley after reports of an altercation between a man and a woman.

Deborah Smith, 47, was taken to hospital with a neck injury but was pronounced dead on arrival.

A man who was taken to hospital in a critical condition has since regained consciousness and been arrested on suspicion of murder, police said.

A post-mortem examination concluded Ms Smith died as a result of a throat injury caused by a sharp instrument.

Det Insp Colin Seaton, leading the investigation, said: "I appeal to anyone who has information that could assist police enquiries to get in touch.

"I would like to reiterate to the community of Wheatley that this is an isolated incident and we are not looking for anyone else in connection with Deborah's death."
