Seven males including two boys aged 12 and 13 have been arrested in connection with the killing of a teenager in a West Yorkshire park.

Seventeen-year-old Amar Aslam died on Sunday evening in what police described as a "sustained" attack in Crow Nest Park in Dewsbury.

The two boys are being held on suspicion of murder along with a 20-year-old man and four boys aged 15.

Police are looking into suggestions the death was linked to a gang fight.

The seventh arrest was made just before 1700 BST on Tuesday.

Officers are still carrying out searches in the area including searches of a pond in the park.

Amar's sister Samreen Aslam said:"Nothing can replace our brother and we still believe he will come through the door.

"This has shattered our family and it won't be the same without him. There will always be a gap when there is a part missing."

Miss Aslam said her family called the teenager by his nickname 'moon' and described him as "their shining moon".

The death has prompted Dewsbury MP Shahid Malik to call for tougher action against violent youths.

He said harsher sentencing was needed as well as help from parents and communities to show that "violence was not acceptable".

Local councillor Karam Hussain went to Amar's family home to offer his condolences.

He said: "There were many relatives in the house and there were many tears, from them and from me.

"I know his father very well. The whole family was devastated, just as anyone would be as a young man's life was lost."

Amar's father and brother were waiting for a flight home from Pakistan after hearing the news last night, he added.

West Yorkshire Police said they wanted to speak to anyone who was in the park between 1400 and 2000 BST on Sunday, to establish a "clearer picture".

Amar had been dressed in white tracksuit bottoms and a white Bench top.
