Demolition heralds regeneration

The waterfront will be a "stylish mixed-up quarter"

Major demolition work is to take place to prepare for a £100m regeneration project in Hull.

Contractors said it would take up to 10 weeks to knock down the former Bonus Electrical buildings.

It is part of a plan to regenerate the city's historic fruit market into a waterfront neighbourhood of homes, offices, shops and restaurants.

The area will be transformed into a "stylish mixed-use lifestyle quarter" but still retain its old town charm.

John Holmes, chief executive of Hull Forward, said: "This particular group of buildings have served their purpose over the many years but are a type of which do not feature in our plans to develop a cosmopolitan new area for the city.

"The clearance of these buildings will temporarily open up some new views of The Deep from Castle Street which I'm sure many people will find interesting."
